PETA Slams ‘Jackass’ Trailer, Demands Animal Scenes Be Cut

Below, please find a statement from PETA President Ingrid Newkirk in response to the new Jackass Forever trailer:

“Jackass stunts are violent and vulgar, but if the talent is willing and the wounds are self-inflicted, that’s one thing—however, it’s quite another when animals are exploited, harassed, and harmed: That’s cruelty. The Jackass Forever trailer shows Knoxville’s crew provoking a snake and a bull to the point of attack, treating a tarantula like a game piece, and coercing a chained bear to eat honey off a bound participant. Four months before its release, Jackass Forever has already risked normalizing animal exploitation and legitimizing the cruel exhibitors who pimp out animals for productions. PETA is urging producers to remove stunts involving animals from the film.”

PETA Celebrates Long John Silver’s Fish-Free Foray

Below, please find a statement from Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman in response to news that Long John Silver’s is now offering the Plant-Based Breaded Fish-Free Fillet and the Plant-Based Breaded Crab-Free Cake from vegan seafood line Good Catch at five locations in California and Georgia:

“After pressure from PETA—including billboards and vegan fish giveaways with mermaid mascots—and after receiving e-mails from tens of thousands of PETA supporters, Long John Silver’s is diving right into the wonderful world of vegan seafood, becoming the first major chain to offer faux fish and cruelty-free crab. The oceans are in trouble, sensitive aquatic animals don’t want to die for human dinners, and this move brings us one step closer to the sustainable vegan planet we all need.”

Bezos’ Blastoff Begets PETA’s Cheeky National Ad Blitz

With Jeff Bezos headed into space in a few days, marking the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and a renewed interest in space travel, PETA is counting down to a national ad blitz. The group plans to place ads near Bezos’ launch site, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, the Johnson Space Center, and the Kennedy Space Center, making the point that artery-clogging meat and dairy foods can mean a failure to launch in the bedroom—because they impede blood flow to all organs—and that we must grasp the gravity of this situation: The future of humanity could be jeopardized if we don’t eat properly.

“If we Earthlings all went vegan, we’d stop the negative impact of animal-based agriculture on this planet and we wouldn’t need to head out into space,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA has all the vegan starter kits, recipes, and other resources needed to help keep America’s rockets ready for liftoff.”

The saturated fat in meat, eggs, and dairy can cause high cholesterol, which leads to plaque buildup and hardening of the arteries, slowing the flow of blood to all the body’s organs, not just the heart. Low-fat vegan meals have been shown to address the physical causes involved in the vast majority of impotence cases, including high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, prostate cancer or inflammation, and hormonal imbalances. And of course, each person who goes vegan prevents nearly 200 animals every year from enduring daily suffering and a terrifying death.
