URGENT: Birds Trapped and Suffering in California!

Reportedly, numerous Yellow-Panel sticky traps are hanging from trees in Vacaville, California, apparently set by the Solano County Agricultural Department. We are told there are almost 300 of these traps, which are intended to monitor an invasive insect species called Glassy-winged sharpshooters. However these traps reportedly also account for countless birds, including hummingbirds, becoming hopelessly mired as their bodies are covered by the gooey substance, resulting in prolonged and fatal suffering (most bird species are federally protected by the Migratory Bird Protection Act).

PETA asked that Solano County Agricultural Department remove the Yellow-Panel sticky traps to prevent further injury or death and although they told us that they intend to work with the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Senior Environmental Scientists (who are monitoring this initiative) to discuss alternatives and/or modifications to the traps, they intend to leave them up for the duration of the study. These birds need your voice now!

Please join PETA in urging the Solano County Agricultural Department to remove all the Yellow-panel stick traps until an ecologically sound and discriminate alternative is secured. Then forward this alert far and wide!

Urge Georgia HOA to Stop Torturing Beavers!

The Deerlake Homeowner’s Association board in Alpharetta, GA has reportedly hired a contractor to fatally target the local beaver population. But removing beavers by any method backfires, as remaining animals then breed at accelerated rates while inevitable newcomers arrive for the still-available resources.

Further, the medieval devices typically used—Conibear traps—cause immense suffering as terrified victims are slowly crushed or drowned (which for beavers can take more than 15 agonizing minutes). These contraptions are also wholly indiscriminate, posing risks to “non-target” victims, including protected wildlife and even companion animals.

PETA apprised the Deerlake HOA Board of the cruelty and futility of these methods, and provided info regarding nonlethal beaver control that’s effective long term, but to no apparent avail—now it’s your turn! Please POLITELY urge the HOA to stop torturing these wild animals who are simply trying to make their way, and instead focus on humane measures that are tried and true.
