Mayon effuses lava as Sabancaya intensifies; Kilauea and Great Sitkin stay ORANGE

Explosive and effusive activity stood out today across several regions. The Philippines‘ Mayon produced ongoing lava effusion with minor Strombolian bursts, while Peru’s Sabancaya showed higher explosive output with ash rising 2.5 km. Guatemala’s Fuego tallied up to 10 explosions per hour and Ecuador’s Sangay recorded hundreds of blasts, as Kilauea and Great Sitkin held at Aviation ORANGE.

United States
Kilauea and Great Sitkin stayed at Watch with Aviation ORANGE as their slow eruptions persisted. Unrest also continued at Shishaldin (Advisory / Aviation YELLOW).

Indonesia
Frequent explosive activity was noted at Ibu (102 explosions; ash to 800 m), Lewotolok (191 explosions, low plumes), and Semeru (108 explosions). Dukono and Marapi produced low ash plumes, the latter from a single explosion to 600 m. At Merapi, 111 rockfalls were recorded with only weak gas release. Unrest continued at several others, including Karangetang and Lewotobi; Kerinci, Raung, and Iliwerung also remained elevated.

Japan
At Yakedake, unrest increased; authorities kept Level 2 restrictions near the crater.

Philippines
Mayon showed dome growth with steady lava effusion and minor, episodic Strombolian bursts. Instruments detected 44 signals linked to pyroclastic density currents and 155 rockfalls; crater glow was visible. The alert remained at Level 3.

Mexico
Popocatepetl released gas-and-steam emissions, and a M1.1 volcano-tectonic quake was recorded; the alert stayed at Yellow Phase 2.

South America
In Ecuador, Sangay generated 297 explosions with ash rising to 1.5 km, while Reventador produced 36 explosions and ash to 1 km. In Peru, Sabancaya saw increased activity with three explosions and ash-and-gas plumes up to 2.5 km, along with thermal anomalies.

Other
In Guatemala, Fuego produced up to 10 explosions per hour, lofting ash to about 1 km and ejecting incandescent material 300 m; shockwaves and rumbling were noted. In Costa Rica, Poas remained at Level 2 – Warning (Aviation Yellow), while Rincon de la Vieja and Turrialba stayed in unrest.
