South Sudan: Provide justice for girl killed for refusing to marry

A 20-year-old girl has been killed in South Sudan for refusing to marry a man her family had selected for her, according to a government official in Yirol. The inhumane consequence of this forced marriage that resulted in her death only highlights the need for an urgent end to this practice which is widespread in South Sudan, Amnesty International said today.

Amnesty International statement on eviction of protesters from its International Secretariat office in London

It is with considerable regret that Amnesty International can confirm that just before 10pm last night a group of approximately 40 protesters rushed the door and forcibly entered the offices of the organisation’s International Secretariat in London. A security guard was pushed and pulled to the ground and trampled underfoot. He was shaken but not injured and thankfully did not require hospital treatment.
