White Island volcano (New Zealand): Uncertainty around further eruptive behaviour

With as many as 27 people still unaccounted for following this mornings explosive phreatic eruption of White Island that left 5 dead, it is unclear whether activity is likely to persist. Despite White Island’s alert level increasing from 1 to 2 on November 18th indicating „moderate to heightened volcanic unrest“ and „potential hazards and eruption“, geologists say there was very little warning.
