Mayon lava to 3.8 km, Strombolian bursts; Semeru and Reventador loft ash

Lava at Mayon remained the standout today, with multi-kilometer flows and bursts of Strombolian activity. Indonesia featured vigorous explosive activity at Semeru, Ibu, and Lewotolok, while Merapi shed hot rockfalls; in Ecuador, Reventador sent ash up to 1.5 km and glowed with incandescent rockfalls. Mexico’s Popocatepetl produced a minor explosion and light ashfall.

Philippines
At Mayon (Alert Level 3), lava effusion persisted with flows 3.8 km in Basud gully, 3.2 km in Bonga, and 2.1 km in Mi-isi; minor Strombolian bursts and brief fountaining were observed, and SO2 averaged 9,028 t/d.
Seismic monitoring registered 187 volcanic earthquakes, 43 tremor episodes, and 398 rockfalls; a plume rose as high as 1.2 km above the vent.
Elsewhere, Kanlaon (Alert Level 2) and Taal (Alert Level 1) held at elevated status without notable new observations, and Bulusan remained in unrest (Alert Level 1).

Indonesia
At Semeru (Alert Level 3), 54 explosions lofted plumes up to 1.3 km above the vent, and 15 rockfalls were recorded.
Lewotolok produced 180 seismically detected explosions, with gas-and-vapor plumes to about 100 m.
Activity at Ibu included 91 explosions with plumes rising to 800 m, while Dukono sent gas-and-vapor columns up to 600 m.
Rockfall activity persisted at Merapi (Alert Level 3), small gas plumes rose 50 m at Krakatau (Alert Level 3), eruptions continued at Lewotobi and Marapi, and Karangetang stayed in unrest (Alert Level 2).

Mexico
At Popocatepetl, a minor 0444 explosion was followed by light ashfall in several Amecameca-area communities. The alert remained at Yellow Alert – Phase 2.

South America
In Ecuador, Reventador produced 72 explosions, ash-and-gas plumes to 1.5 km, and incandescent rockfalls descending 1 km.
Sangay registered 14 explosions along with thermal anomalies.
Peru’s Sabancaya emitted ash-and-gas plumes up to 500 m and showed a small number of related earthquakes and a thermal anomaly.
