Most alert levels and activity states are unchanged from the previous day. Hawaii’s Kilauea was raised to Watch with Aviation ORANGE, while Guatemala’s Fuego produced up to 12 explosions per hour with ashfall. In the Philippines, lava advanced on Mayon, and Alaska’s Great Sitkin kept slow lava effusion under an ORANGE aviation alert.
United States
Kilauea (Watch / Aviation ORANGE) was elevated on 13 May and remains in eruption. At Great Sitkin (Watch / Aviation ORANGE), lava continued to slowly fill the summit crater with occasional rockfalls. Unrest persisted at Kupreanof and Shishaldin (both Advisory / Aviation YELLOW), with SO2 degassing reported at Kupreanof.
Indonesia
Explosive activity stood out at Semeru (53 explosions, ash to 600 m) and at Merapi, where hot rockfalls reached up to 2 km and a PDC was detected; Marapi and Lewotolok produced low plumes and a few explosions. Elevated conditions also held at Lewotobi (Level 3) and at long-active Dukono; minor incandescence and gas emission were noted at Karangetang. Broader Level 2 unrest was reported across parts of Sumatra and Java, including Kerinci, Krakatau, Raung, Sangeang Api, and others; background activity was noted at Ijen and Tangkuban Parahu.
Philippines
Mayon (Alert Level 3) maintained effusive activity with lava flows extending 3.8 km (Basud), 3.2 km (Bonga), and 1.6 km (Mi-isi), along with minor Strombolian bursts and brief fountaining. Kanlaon showed gas plumes, 17 quakes, and ongoing inflation; SO2 averaged 143 t/d. Taal remained at low-level unrest with 1,633 t/d of SO2 and slight inflation, while Bulusan produced low plumes and minor seismicity.
Mexico
Popocatepetl released ash-and-gas emissions under Yellow Alert – Phase 2.
South America
Sabancaya sent ash-and-gas plumes up to 2,000 m, with minor inflation and several thermal anomalies detected.
Other
In Guatemala, Fuego generated up to 12 explosions per hour with ash to about 1 km, incandescent ejecta, and ashfall downwind, while Santa Maria saw up to three explosions per hour and glowing rockfalls. In Costa Rica, Poas, Rincon de la Vieja, and Turrialba remained at Level 2 Warning with Aviation Yellow.
