Earthquakes under Santorini volcano (red to yellow circles) during the past 14 days
Light volcano-tectonic unrest continues: A new cluster of small earthquakes under the eastern central part of Santorini has shown up in recent days. The quakes, mostly smaller than magnitude 3, are clustered at depths between 5-20 km along the SW-NE oriented tectonic Kameni line, which has been the main source of magma ascent at the volcano over the past few hundred thousand years.
The location and distribution suggests that the new magmatic intrusion that probably started already late last summer is still continuing and/or has gained again some energy.
