Map of today’s active volcanoes

Etna (Sicily, Italy): (8 Feb) A new lava flow began to erupt from a new vent at the southern base of the Bocca Nuova summit crater this evening. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Catania (INGV) reported that this activity started from around 18:35 local time and that the vent is located at approx. 3000 m elevation below the saddle between Bocca Nuova and the SE crater.
Volcanic tremor has not shown significant increase, suggesting that the effusion rate is small. No explosive activity or ash emissions have been observed to accompany the activity.
No significant ground deformation has been detected, implying that no major volumes of magma have moved underground.

Kolumbo (Greece): (9 Feb) There’s no significant change it seems: earthquakes continue to be frequent, but also a slowly decreasing trend over the past 24 hours.
The last event above magnitude 5 was yesterday morning, since then, „only“ 10 quakes higher than magnitude 4 have occurred. The trend of decrease is best seen when looking at the combined energy over time (s. attached graphics).

Santorini (Cyclades, Greece): (9 Feb) There’s no significant change it seems: earthquakes continue to be frequent, but also a slowly decreasing trend over the past 24 hours.
The last event above magnitude 5 was yesterday morning, since then, „only“ 10 quakes higher than magnitude 4 have occurred. The trend of decrease is best seen when looking at the combined energy over time (s. attached graphics).
