Santorini volcano update: Schools on Santorini to remain closed until at least Feb 14

Santorini and its famous caldera in spring

Greek authorities decided to keep schools on Santorini and the nearby islands of Anafi, Ios, and Amorgos closed until at least 14 February, as a precaution in case of stronger quakes.

No significant change in the earthquake activity has occurred today, although one can observe a weak decrease in intensity overall compared to a few days ago.

The Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (OASP) of the Infrastructure Ministry said that the seismicity remains stable and has NO relation to volcanic activity, neither with the volcano of Santorini itself, nor the nearby submarine volcano Kolumbo. Certainly, that’s what inhabitants of the affected islands fear most.
