The Kīlauea eruption paused at 7:23 p.m. HST on February 4, marking the end of Episode 8 of the ongoing summit eruption in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park.
The episode 8 lasted approximately 21.5 hours, with lava fountains and flows ceasing first at the north vent around 7:07 p.m., followed by the south vent at 7:23 p.m. During this episode, lava covered more than half of the Halema’uma’u crater floor.
Around the time the eruption stopped, summit tilt shifted rapidly from deflation to inflation, and seismic tremor decreased. The Uēkahuna tiltmeter (UWD) recorded approximately 11 microradians of deflationary tilt during Episode 8.
