The eruptive activity between Stóra-Skógfell and Sýlingarfell remains consistent with that observed earlier this morning. Both seismic activity and ground deformation at the eruption site continue to be minimal.
Preliminary measurements indicate that the volume of magma traveling from Svartsengi to the Sundhnúkur crater row is approximately half of what was recorded during the August 22 eruption. More detailed analysis is expected in the coming days.
The lava flow that crossed Grindavíkurvegur and the hot water pipeline to the west has continued its westward progression. By midday, the lava reached the parking lot at the Blue Lagoon and is advancing further. The flow’s rate of movement was measured at over 100 meters per hour between 12:09 and 13:35.
The lava flow field has now extended farther west than any previous lava flows from earlier eruptions. Images captured by an IMO webcam stationed on Þorbjörn show the lava’s progress as of midday today and from 13:40 to 14:30.
