Svartsengi (Reykjanes peninsula, SW Iceland): (27 Aug) A new series of satellite imagery of the effusive eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula has been processed.
The latest Sentinel-2 acquisition from 26 August portrays a relatively cloud-free image of the eruption site.
The lava flow occupies mostly the northwestern part of the fissure, concentrated in two main lava flow streams.
…27 Aug:
The ongoing eruption is the largest in the area since the autumn of 2023, the Icelandic Met Office reported.
Model calculations estimate the volume of magma that flowed from Svartsengi into the Sundhnúks crater series when the eruption started.
