Campi Flegrei (Phlegrean Fields) (Italy): Since 19:51 local time yesterday, a seismic swarm has been occurring in the Campi Flegrei caldera. Until 00:31 local time last night, approximately 150 earthquake events have been monitored. The largest recorded earthquake had a magnitude of 4.4, which is the most powerful quake recorded since the current seismic crisis began in 2005. The epicenter is located within the Solfatara at a depth of 2.6 km.
Seismicity is inherently unpredictable, so additional seismic events, potentially of similar energy to those already recorded during this swarm, cannot be ruled out.
