The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported that a strong-intensity explosion appeared at the volcano today.
This morning’s (08:28 local time) event was more powerful than the average size of explosions at the volcano.
From thermal webcam images, it seems the eruption took place from the North crater area, triggering a small lava overflow onto the outer upper slope of Sciara del Fuoco and showering the vent with glowing lava bombs.
More details are supposed to come from the volcano observatory.
