The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) noted a low-level explosive eruption at the volcano’s summit crater over the past hours.
Elevated surface temperatures have been identified in thermal satellite views over the past 24 hours. Visibility of the eruptive phase was limited due to dense clouds.
Based on previous eruption episodes over the past month at the volcano, the activity may escalate in a strong paroxysm phase and this could be a beginning of another, 8th such lava-fountaining episode in a row. Recent paroxysm series were characterized by continuous ash-rich emissions, lava fountains and lava flows. On the contrary, the ongoing eruptive activity might keep the current levels and cease some time.
