US Coast guard flew over the volcano yesterday and could see a cinder cone that has formed in the summit crater of the snow-clad volcano. Steam plumes from the cone suggest that it was active, most likely, in the form of strombolian explosions from the cone.
Video of the overflight:
#Shishaldin Yesterday afternoon, a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter flew by Shishaldin Volcano, capturing this video of the new eruptive activity. Watch to the end to see the new scoria cone growing in the summit crater. Thank you @USCGAlaska for sharing this with us! (1/2) pic.twitter.com/Mxveh2eBoc

This still is labeled with the eruptive phenomena you can see in the video. In addition to the scoria cone, you can see steam and volcanic gases and dark ash deposits on the summit. @USGSVolcanoes @UAFGI @akdggs (2/2) pic.twitter.com/YWR4DSAVnt
