The extrusive eruption at the volcano continues.
The new lava dome continues to grow within the pre-eruption extrusive dome crater that was partially destroyed by the massive explosion on 11 April and forms the „dome in the dome area“. The new lava dome growth appears to ooze out as erupted viscous lava, giving it a rugged outer shape by exceeding limits of plastic deformation.
The local institute Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT) reported that strong prevailing eastern winds lifted ash deposits (tephra), located on the southeastern slopes of the volcano, and carried it about 30 km eastward on 28 May.
