Rincón de la Vieja (Costa Rica): The explosive eruption continues at the volcano’s summit crater.
A vigorous phreatic eruption took place at 14:34 local time on 25 May. The blast was strong enough to generate dark black pumice-and-ash flows caused by an eruption plume collapse. White phoenix clouds – towering wall of cloud rising above pyroclastic torrent – rose about 3 km above the crater and drifted NW.
