On 27 April, a group of local volcanologists leading by Alexey Demyanchuk went to investigate the consequences of the massive eruption in the area of Bekesh river on the south of the volcano.
They found the base camp completely destroyed by the large pyroclastic flow. The riverbed, nearby forest and snow are covered by tephra ash layers. In addition, snow is being melted at the contact with sun which in turn forms a thick mud-ash blend.
The pyroclastic flow stopped about 2 km from a bridge crossing the river with a tephra ash deposit thickness of about 10 cm.
Judging from the latest satellite image of the volcano, the block-and-ash flow deposits seem to cover an area of about 100 km2 and reach about 21 km distance from the lava dome area (EO Browser measure tool).
