An elevated seismic activity has occurred beneath the volcano since 9 January.
This may hint magma at depth that is able to pressurize and fracture rocks forming intrusions allowing it to rise further.
Moreover, an increased amount of CO2 concetrations has been registered since early January, as well as water and soil temperatures reaching about 68 °C and 22 °C, respectively.
In conclusion, the PVMBG observatory raised the Volcanic Alert Level to Level 2.
The current hazards may pose increased CO2 emissions in Timbang crater and/or sudden phreatic explosions. People are advised to avoid an area of about 1 km distance from Sileri crater.
