Villarrica volcano (Central Chile): strong heat radiation within crater area continues

The elevated strombolian activity at the volcano continues from the summit crater.

Explosions continue to produce glowing scoria ejected to an approximate height of dozens to hundreds of meters above the central vent.

According to the Proyecto Observación Villarrica, the second highest thermal anomaly since 2020 was detected on 13 Dec. A strong incandescent associated with vigorous degassing from the summit vent may signalize either elevated fluid movements of gas, water and/or possibly magma under the surface.

The Volcanic Alert Level remains at Yellow with 500 meters exclusion zone around the main crater in place.
