Taupo (New Zealand): (2 Dec) A mighty M 5.6 earthquake occurred beneath Lake Taupō on 30 November.
The quake generated a ground movement detected by GNSS instruments installed around the lake. The maximum accumulated horizontal deformation reached 100 mm at Horomatangi Reef. Numerous aftershocks have been registered. The event is linked to the ongoing seismic unrest since May 2022. The earthquake has been widely felt causing minor damage and a small tsunami in the lake.

The main emitting lava from Fissure 3 continues to keep the flow active in the direction towards Daniel K. Inouye Highway (Saddle Road). As of early morning yesterday (1 Dec), traveling lava flows along the northeast slope started to spread out and inflate by hitting a low-sloping spot.
