The effusive eruption at the volcano continues at the intense activity.

Three fissures opened on the Northeast Rift Zone, of which two of them stopped to be active as of 01:30 PM local time today. The only active one has remained the lowest one (the HVO dubbed it „Fissure 3“).

Lava flows from two higher inactive fissure vents traveled downslope, but arrived just about 11 miles (18 km) from Saddle Road.

Fissure 3 is erupting lava fountains of up to perhaps a 30-60 meters (100-200 ft) height and feeding lava flows towards the east parallel to the Northeast Rift Zone. Emitting lava flows have reached approx. 10,000 ft elevation with a distance over 10 miles (16 km) away from Saddle Road.

Scientists are not expected upper fissure vents to reactivate. However, they likely expect additional fissures to open along the Northeast Rift Zone below the current location.

The summit eruption within Moku’āweoweo caldera ceased and neither lava flow eruption from the Southwest Rift Zone.

Regarding risk mitigation and precautions, populated areas and properties are currently in a safe zone so far.
