The KVERT local observatory and Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Tokyo registered an explosion from the volcano starting in the late afternoon of 23 October. Frequent ash emissions have continued throughout the last night and most of today rising to an altitude of 28,000 ft (8,500 m) above the summit and drifting east-northeast.
