Sangay volcano (Ecuador): incandescent avalanches and continuing lava flows

The effusive-explosive eruption of the volcano continues.

Lava arms continue to advance down the north-northwestern slopes as depicted in the satellite imagery from 20 June.

Near-frequent vulcanian eruptions created ash plumes sending pyroclastic material to approx. 6,1 to 6,7 km height over the last week.

Satellite-based measurements of SO2 concentrations were detected in plumes of about 220 tonnes on 7 July.
Most of the ejected hot, juvenile and glowing material slid down along the southeastern flank in the form of incandescent avalanches.
