Shiveluch volcano (Kamchatka): sporadic eruption yesterday

Eruption from Shiveluch volcano yesterday (image: KVERT)

An explosion occurred at the volcano at about 00:50 local time yesterday.

An ash plume rose to 16,000 ft (4,900 m) altitude and drifted east.

A visible glow and strong fumarolic activity suggest a continuing rise of fresh viscous magma at a very steady flow rate which has been accumulating and resulted in near-constant hot, glowing lava blocks.
