Sinabung (Sumatra, Indonesia): (21 May) The Indonesian Centre of Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) lowered the alert status from Level 3 to Level 2 valid on 11 May at 21:00 local time.
The volcano is currently calm since 1 January and its activity has been mostly characterized by passive emissions of steam and gas venting about 50-500 meters above the summit crater. The average rate of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions was measured at about 250 tonnes/day with a maximum value of 4000 tonnes/day in January.
