Sinabung (Sumatra, Indonesia): (21 May) The Indonesian Centre of Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) lowered the alert status from Level 3 to Level 2 valid on 11 May at 21:00 local time.
The volcano is currently calm since 1 January and its activity has been mostly characterized by passive emissions of steam and gas venting about 50-500 meters above the summit crater. The average rate of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions was measured at about 250 tonnes/day with a maximum value of 4000 tonnes/day in January.

The seismic activity of the volcano has decreased over the past four months in general.
GPS, EDM and tilt monitoring instruments detected a continuous ground deflation (subsidence) of the edifice during the period.

Semeru (East Java, Indonesia): (22 May) Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Darwin warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 13000 ft (4000 m) altitude or flight level 130 .

Hualalai (Big Island (Hawai’i)): The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) registered an earthquake with magnitude M 4.7 beneath the Island of Hawai‘i at 11:50 local time yesterday.
The quake was located about 2 km (1 mi) east-northeast of Kailua-Kona at a depth of 11 km (7 mi) below sea level.

The event has been reported widely across the Island of Hawai‘i and as far away as Kauaʻi.
Over the past 25 years, there have only been 2 earthquakes with magnitudes greater than 4.0 beneath Hualalai volcano, including today’s event. This event was primarily lateral slip along a sub-vertical fault and does not appear to be directly related to magmatic activity. Aftershocks are likely, and some may be felt.
