Lahars detected by the seismic station (image: INSIVUMEH)
Lahars are now in progress in the volcano area.
Current heavy rainfalls continue to remobilise the fresh ash deposits to generate moderate-to-strong mudflows down along the Barranca Ceniza chute and Achíguate river. The lahars are expected to continue in the late afternoon and night.
Lahars consist of fraction of clay-sized particles and such flow can pick up the material along the way.
