The strong eruptive episode (likely to be classified as paroxysm) is now in progress at the volcano even at the time of this update.
Strombolian activity started to pick up rapidly at the summit vent in the evening of 22 April with detected precursor. The activity quickly intensified, accompanied by a sharp peak in volcanic tremor indicating rapid magma flux towards the surface resulted in a new lava-fountaining episode (paroxysm). The pulsating lava fountains have been shooting glowing scoria into the sky and continued to generate ash-rich plumes up to 20,000 ft (6,100 m) altitude drifting S-SE yesterday.
