The Instituto Geofísico del Perú alerted about a possible collapse of the southeastern flank at the volcano.
The reason for this alert is the possible destabilization of the 1.2 and 1.4 km high crater walls.
Producing such a collapse would turn into a landslide, in the worst-case scenario into a culminated pyroclastic flow racing down Ubinas valley through Volcamayo creek threatening the nearby population of Querapi, Ubinas, Tonohaya and San Miguel.
The collapse could occur if heavy rainfalls remobilize large pyroclastic deposits or in case of an eruption.
The current crater volume is about 2 640 000 cubic meters.
