The Goma Volcanological Observatory (OVG) reported that the intense activity on the southern flank of the volcano continues.
A field research during 23-29 December reveals that the activity is focused in between Kibati, Shaheru and Mudjoga.
A fumarolic activity is being observed accompanied by white-to-blue emissions of water vapor, gas and intense heat. In different places of the area is felt a smell of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions.
A high continuous volcanic tremor is detected by instruments located at Nyiragongo summit, Kibati, Rusayo and Bulengo.
People are advised to keep strict hygiene rules, cover food and dishes and avoid drinking rain and lake water.
