The actively growing lava dome continues to collapse at elevated levels.
Another significant pyroclastic flow series occurred today at 11:32 local time after having rested for 4 days since the latest tall and dense phoenix clouds on 25 June.
Block-and-ash flows continue to descend over the southeast slopes reaching length of at least 2000 m and 1200 m respectively. Collapsing parts of the flows generated 13 incandescent avalanches that lifted ash plumes up to 3,5 km altitude as they descended the slopes. Pyroclastic flows are deadly, turbulent hot avalanche of lava rock fragments of all sizes embedded in a mixture of turbulent gas and ash racing down slopes.
The seismic station recorded 5 earthquakes related to pyroclastic flows and 228 volcano-tectonic earthquakes today.
The volcano’s official alert level remains at 3 (on a scale of 1-4), and the public is being warned to stay at least 5 km away from the summit.
