The extrusive eruption of the volcano continues at very steady flow rate.
A field observation from 24 June by volcanologist Alexey Demyanchuk and his team informed that the new extruded lava dome Dolphin-2, about 200 m tall and 170 m wide at its base, started to collapse slowly as cracks occurred at the dome.
The lava dome had grown from the active lava dome and forming the „dome on top of a dome“ in mid-May. The extruded lava dome stands out with a spectacularly and highly unusual, smooth, egg-like shape exactly as the previous lava dome „Dolphin“.
Gravitational instability of growing lava dome may triggers block-and-ash flows (pyroclastic flows), known as Merapi-type pyroclastic density currents.
