Lava flow on Stromboli’s Sciara del Fuoco Thursday night (image: INGVvulcani / facebook)
Another short-lived lava flow on the Sciara del Fuoco occurred in the evening of Thursday, 17 June. Starting from 21:10 local time and accompanied by a moderate rockfall event on the slope, lava over-spilled from the northern crater area and formed a flow on the upper Sciara about 200 m long.
The lava flow generated near-continuous smaller rockfalls and dust clouds on the slope. It only lasted a few hours and by around 4:30 am the next morning had ceased while the volcano’s activity had returned to normal levels (spattering, intermittent strombolian explosions at the summit vents).
