The effusive-explosive eruption of the volcano continues.
INSIVUMEH reported that the activity at the volcano has been increasing during the past few days characterized by explosive eruptions at high levels.
Strong eruptive episode is now in progress at the volcano’s Mackenney summit crater that generated moderate-to-stronger explosions than the average size of explosions at the volcano at regular intervals of 3 to 5 per hour. Blocks were ejected as far as 200 m-300 m away from the crater.
Increasingly tall and dense ash plumes can be seen rising from the summit crater that rose to estimated 11,000 ft-12,450 ft (3,400 m-3,800 m) altitude and drifted into various directions, but most often W-SW direction.
According to volcano obsevatory, a large amount of ash and gas emissions were extended up to 66 km to the northwest of the volcano on 9 February.
The volcano continues to effuse the lava flow from the eruptive fissures on the S-SW flank, currently about 1,300 m long and producing frequent glowing avalanches of material.
