The activity at the volcano increased since 11 December characterized by moderate-to-strong pyroclastic flows as INSIVUMEH reported.
Actively growing lava dome causes generating the block-and-ash flows likely caused by partially gravitational collapse of the Caliente lava dome.

Soon after the eruption, strong ashfall of fine particles, up to a few mm in size, covered all surfaces in area of Finca Montebello, Loma Linda and San Marcos Palajunoj. Volcanic ash extended about 15-20 km to the southwest of the volcano.
