
Eruption from Sakurajima volcano this afternoon (image: screenshot embedded video / X)
The volcano remains highly active. Strong vulcanian-type explosions occur almost daily, or even more often.
An eruption this afternoon produced impressive shock waves (visible in the video embedded) and billowing ash plumes rising up to 5-6 km altitude. Several volcanic ash alert messages to aviation have been issued by Tokyo VAAC.
