The effusive eruption at the volcano has halted.
Nearly 12 hours since the eruption began, the activity has paused at about 12:30 PM local time. Lava flows were sluggish between 11-12 PM local time and stopped its advance appro.x at 12:30 PM local time.
However, elevated volcanic gas emissions persist. At around 7:45 AM today, sulfur dioxide emissions rate was measured at approximately 15,000 tonnes per day. By noon, this rate had decreased to 12,000 tonnes per day and likely continued to decline throughout the afternoon.
The volcanic tremor, indicatingf magma movement, continues to be recorded on the summit area, albeit at a slightly reduced intensity. The earthquake activity in the summit region of Kīlauea has significantly decreased since the onset of the eruption. Over the past 8 hours, all seismic activity has been concentrated near Maunaiki, at the western edge of the newly formed crack system from this eruption.
Therefore, a decision has been made to lower the alert status to Orange.
