The effusive eruption of the volcano continues.
The advancing lava flow on the southern flank continues to emerge from the summit flank fissure (number 13) and is rapidly reaching the shoreline. The lava branched off into two main lava flow arms, of which the western one is currently about 560 meters to enter the sea.
Once the lava interacts with water, it does so explosively, forming abundant steam-gas emissions, so-called laze (lava haze).
Initially, approximately 44 million cubic meters of material were estimated to have been ejected over an area of about 12 square kilometers as of 1 April. These figures indicate that the ongoing eruption is the largest in the past 15 years, second only to the eruption of 2009.
As the volcano is uninhabited, there is no threat to the population.
