Fernandina volcano (Galápagos Islands): lava flow persists in advancing toward ocean

The effusive eruption of the volcano continues.

The lava flow on the south-southwestern flank remains active and continues to advance towards the shoreline, currently about 2,6 km from the ocean entry.

Once the lava interacts with water, it does so explosively, forming abundant steam-gas emissions, so called laze (lava haze).

As the volcano is uninhabited, there is no threat to the population.
