Unfortunately, after the road was being cut by the lava flow, the advancing flow front continued to destroy another important objects in its path. Recently about half an hour ago, the lava reached the hot water pipe, the main transport channel for hot water from Svartsengi to Reykjanesbær. From the live stream webcam imagery, abundant vapour emissions indicate that the pipe has undergone a damaging.
Hot water will be safe for the next hour until another precaution will be taken.
In order to save hot water, residents are advised to keep waiting for the starting of electric heating as long as possible.
There is a risk that the travelling lava flow will cross another important pipe, and given the current discharge rate of the lava, the risk continues to increase.
