Villarrica volcano (Central Chile): constant vivid steaming from main vent and mild strombolian explosions

Glowing steam from the summit vent at Villarrica volcano persists (image: AngaritaVPhotography)

The explosive eruption at the volcano continues at moderate levels.

Continuous bright emissions of steam and gas are emitted from the summit vent associated with minor strombolian-style explosions generating glowing lava bombs thrown within the crater area. The vivid summit lava-filled pond remains active, hinting the continuous delicate equilibrium between heat and magma supply and loss (through cooling and mild emissions during degassing).

The Volcanic Alert Level remains at Orange with 500-meter exclusion zone around the main crater in place.
