Reykjanes (Reykjanes peninsula (SW Iceland)): On the Icelandic Met Office’s website, the latest InSAR wave interpolation satellite image processed by COSMO-SkyMed portrays the ongoing ground deformation from 11-18 November.
As we informed in the last update, the situation is almost unchanged from yesterday. The biggest event was a magnitude 2.8 in Hagafell, 3.5 km NNE of Grindavík.
The most likely scenario remains that an eruption will start in the near future.

The situation is almost unchanged from yesterday. The most likely scenario remains that an eruption will start in the near future.
In the last 24 hours, about 1,700 earthquakes have been recorded, about 1,000 earthquakes since midnight. No quakes of magnitude 3 or higher occurred.

The explosive eruption at the volcano continues at a bit heightened levels within the past two weeks.
Popocatépetl is mainly characterized by strong near-constant ash emissions from the summit vent rather than vulcanian-sized explosions. Ash plumes rose to estimated 6-7 km elevation, drifting mostly to the S-SW, occasionally SE direction.
