Reykjanes volcano update: new hazard map despite interrupted eruption

The Icelandic Met Office updated the hazard map for the eruption site yesterday. Even though the activity likely ceased (or is being interrupted) a couple of days ago, the vicinity of the eruption area still poses a high risk for people.
The solidified crust of the lava surface might be very thin, its susceptibility to break off when walking on it is high, and a sudden fall through it threatens.

It is important to keep in mind that the lava flow field temperature remains very hot, mainly the interior of lava tubes consists of molten lava with temperatures of about 800 Centigrade (or more).
There are still valid hazards in the area around the site. Although gas and steam emissions have decreased, people should be aware of the continuous SO2 pollution that pose the main hazards for health risk.
