Fagradalsfjall volcano update: Chances of eruption increase, and it will likely be more powerful than in 2021 and 2022

According to Icelandic scientists, the likelihood of a new eruption is increasing as the earthquake swarm caused by intruding magma continues. According to Lovísa Mjöll Guðmundsdóttir, natural hazard expert at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, it is also likely that if the eruption occurs it will be significantly more powerful than the past two eruptions in 2021 and 2022 near Fagradalsfjall.
„We were running a model that shows us that magma inflow into the magma tunnel is 88 cubic meters per second,“ Lovísa is cited in an article on ruv.is, the national broadcasting company. If the figure is correct, it is about twice as much magma as was being supplied to the magma chamber (or dyke) feeding the 2021 and 2022 eruption, which measured at 34 and 49 cubic meters per second, respectively.
