The strong eruptive episode at the volcano continues at irregular intervals.
Surveillance cameras of the PVMBG volcano institute observed at 14:31 local time yesterday an intense explosion from the volcano’s cinder cone that generated a perpendicularly rising grey-to-black ash-abundant column to estimated 1.6 km height drifting northwest. 3,5 hours later, another powerful eruption took place from the cinder cone, spewing a perpendicular grey-to-black ash-rich plume again, but a way higher than the previous event this time. The spectacular ash plume volcano rose up to nearly 3,7 km elevation and dispersed towards the northwest. Given the volcano’s low height (189 meters), today’s plume is among the highest ones of the recent year at the volcano.
Last night, about 30 minutes after midnight, erupting incandescent lava jets (paroxysm) were being detected from the cone via the webcam. Pyroclastic material in the form of hot, juvenile and plastic ejecta is distinguishable in the webcam screenshot as being landed onto the flank of the volcano.
The seismic network reported seismic signals with maximum amplitudes of 70 and 65 mm and durations of 169, 157 and 436 seconds.
The warning bulletin states a 5 km exclusion zone around the main crater in place.
