Etna (Sicily, Italy): (19 May) The INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology) seismic network detected a rapid increase of continuous vibrations (so-called tremor) associated with a degassing at noon (12:10 local time) yesterday.
Volcanic tremor reached temporarily high values, indicating magma moving upwards through the volcanic conduits, and later on showed significant variations following a decrease to medium values. A sharp spike of high amplitude tremor returned back at 11:30 local time with an increasing tendency. The tremor has been located between the Bocca Nuova crater and the Southeast Crater at an altitude 2500 meters.

Karangetang (Siau Island, Sangihe Islands, Indonesia): After almost one month since the local volcano institute decreased the alert status for the volcano, activity started to rise again over the past two weeks.
Since 15 May, glowing lava blocks have been observed detaching from the Main Crater’s lava dome that reached a 1.5 km sliding distance over the south and southwestern slope. The activity has been accompanied by ongoing release of gas and steam emissions (so-called degassing) to an estimated 2500 meters altitude, dissipating into various directions.
