…16 May:
The effusive-explosive eruption at the volcano continues and remains essentially unchanged.
Near-frequent strombolian and intermittent larger vulanian-type explosions continue to take place from the summit vent. The PVMBG surveillance cameras observed three eruptions over the past 24 hours. Grey-to-black ash plumes rose approx. 500-600 meters above the summit and drifted towards the east and southeast.

Semeru (East Java, Indonesia): Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Darwin warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 14000 ft (4300 m) altitude or flight level 140 .
The full report is as follows: VA TO FL140 OBS AT 16/0220Z MOV S EST VA DTG:16/1430Z to 14000 ft (4300 m)

Great Sitkin (United States, Aleutian Islands): The effusive eruption at the volcano continues and is characterized by slow-paced viscous lava flow.
The slow rate of the lava has been causing its thickening around the vent rather than its length advance. From satellite images, the active lava flow front continues to ooze out onto the eastern flank at a sluggish rate. Lava tongues on the southern and southwestern slopes, mainly active in the beginning of the effusive phase in July 2021, seem to have stopped or at least decreased its advance.
