The explosive eruption at the volcano continues. The activity is characterized mainly by near-continuous ash emissions and sporadic strong vulcanian-sized explosions.

An intense eruption appeared from the summit vent in the afternoon yesterday, spewing a dense grey ash column to estimated 24,000 ft (7,300 m) altitude that drifted southwest.

Seismic records registered 28 long-period earthquakes and 2 tremor events over the past 24 hours.

The MOUNTS system registered a flux of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions which reached 98.2 tonnes on 3 May.
